LEGO® has just treated fans of classic Castle sets in a particularly nasty way. For half a year there were rumors and teasers about a mysterious gift-with-purchase set. Every one of us was hoping for something as good as last year’s 40567 Forest Hideout.

And then the 40601 Majisto’s Magical Workshop set appeared before our eyes.

It turned out that the final product not only looks bad, but to get it, you will have to spend as much as 1200 PLN in the LS store! Early rumors talked about an entry threshold of 1100 PLN. As a reminder, to get the Forest Hideout, you had to spend “only” 690 PLN. In January we got a remake of the Blacktron ship, set 40580, where the minimum spend was 900 PLN.

As you can see, LEGO® is testing the limits of our nostalgia. If only they had given the knight a printed shield and a special helmet. Sadly, in its current state I rate this set as junk. You are much better off getting a used original, although that is not cheap either: the average price of used models is 312 PLN.

If someone still has an appetite for this new release, it will be available on 18-19.11.2023. There will also be double Insiders points and some other nonsense, but that is not today’s topic. I suspect, though, that many people will skip 40601 and it will show up in a similar promo at least a couple more times.
